Verdict: Hey, a placement of a Beatles song where the critics pretty much agree with me. A mindless pop lyric where Paul had someone just say the opposite of whatever he said and he wrote it down. It’s catchy, and I love the ending with the “Hey yas” and the tambourine. 

74: What You’re Doing

Verdict: This is so different from most of Paul’s songs that I find myself drawn to it despite the rather simple lyric. The heavy syncopation is a nice change of pace, but the really cool thing he did was rhyme a two-syllable word (like “doing”) with two one-syllable words (“blue and”). There’s no chorus either. Harrison plays a cool twelve-string guitar. All in all just a fun song.

73: You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away

Verdict: John’s homage to Bob Dylan as he sings it pretty much like he would. Not sure if that’s a compliment or not. Has a rhythm that makes me want to sway. Also not sure if that’s a compliment. I do know I love the flutes that John Scott plays in the background.

72: We Can Work It Out

Verdict: A perfect example where Paul and John worked well together, with Paul writing the more optimistic part of the lyric while John countered him with the bitchy one. They also harmonize well.

71: I’ll Be Back

Verdict: Like “What You’re Doing,” I really appreciate the various stylings. There’s multiple switches between major and minor keys, no chorus, and two different bridges. John really shows off his vocal range.
