The Princess Bride

Year: 1987
Director: Rob Reiner

Summary: A young boy listens while his grandfather reads him the adventures of Buttercup, the most beautiful woman in the world, and Westly, the man she loves, in the fairy-tale kingdom of Florin.

Times Watched: About 10

My Experience: This is one of the movies I took home to watch by myself when I worked at the video store, mainly so I could finally not be confused whenever I heard people yelling “Inconceivable!”. I’m glad I did. And the more I see it, the more I enjoy it, especially when watching it with others. The casting choices here were insanely good. Elwes and Wright make a perfect fairy-tale romance team. Wallace Shawn nails his role. Andre the Giant? Come on, that’s inspired. Carol Kane… I had a T-shirt made for my better half that says “I’m not a witch, I’m your wife!”

I can’t believe this didn’t get nominated for best adapted screenplay.

  1. I haven’t seen this in way too long. Luckily, I don’t think Linds has ever seen it, so I think I have an excuse to watch it again.
