Review: Similar in style to Tecmo Super Bowl II but with a wider array of features that make it the game worth playing of the two.
At this point the series was only vaguely tied to its arcade roots. There are still no penalties, and game play is still more simplistic than Madden, but the sheer joy is gone. There are new cinematics, though they’re more subdued than ever and I’m not sure why.
That said, I did play it a lot at the time. The free agency system is kind of fun. The game has added photos of the players. And as usual the game kept copious stats and records which was not the norm at the time.
