131. Battle Lines (1.13)

Synopsis: A runabout carrying Kai Opaka crashes on a planet of eternal war, where it is impossible for the combatants to die.

Memory Alpha Summary: Finish Him!

Review: A very interesting concept here that just never lives up to its potential.

We get a little bit of the importance of religion to the Bajoran people (and Major Kira), but it isn’t really explored with much depth. The concept of a prison colony on a moon (or asteroid) has been explored by Star Trek before; the idea of making the prisoners immortal, forced to continue killing and dying for all eternity, is brutal and potentially a great story. But the dialogue of the prisoners is cliché, and there should have been more tension than there was.

  1. Ah, I remember this one. I thought about this concept for months afterward, and likely used it for inspiration in both my wrestling federation and some short stories.
