125: I’ve Got A Feeling

Verdict: A few times John and Paul each had a song that they had only partially composed and decided to combine the two songs together. This is my least favorite, though the two guys were barely speaking at this point so it’s not that surprising. I love the bridge where Paul screams “All that I’ve been looking for was somebody who looked like you!” John’s “everybody” song at the end is a nice fade-out but it goes on a bit too long. 

124: All My Loving

Verdict: A fairly banal, saccharine jingle by Paul, though I do rather enjoy the chorus and John’s rhythm guitar.

123: The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill

Verdict: John refers to this as a teenage social-comment song, and that pretty much sums it up. I do like that he left out the angst and replaced it with a bit of humor. Ono’s voice is caustic (in the chemical way), which kills a good joke in the middle.  I like the Mellotron instrumentation. I just wish the chorus didn’t go on forever.

122 & 121: Let It Be

Verdict: A nearly universally praised song, often making top 5 lists, though I did find one critic who thought its popularity was overblown (not counting John, who didn’t care for it either). I enjoy the opening verse, especially knowing it’s a touching ode to Paul’s mother, named Mary. But the rest of the lyric is fairly generic, and oh my god let me count how many times he says the words “Let it Be.”

Okay, I counted seven-hundred and eighty-eight times, but I might be off by a couple.
