Hoop Dreams

Year: 1994
Director: Steve James

Summary: A film following the lives of two African American boys who struggle to become college basketball players on the road to going professional.

Times Watched: 1

My Experience: I saw this on a school field-trip in seventh grade. I believe it was the first documentary I ever saw and feeling a little out of sorts at the different way of presenting a story. I liked the two players they followed and shared their joys and their failures. I was also bored at times (when we weren’t watching basketball), but that could very well be attributed to how young I was and not being able to fully appreciate the real-world drama. I am sure that if I watched it now I would enjoy it more.
