Creator: Norman Lear
The second to last show on this countdown that was over before I was born, All in the Family is still funny and relevant today. Carol O’Connor is a wonderful actor. Not only was he able to take Lear’s vision of breaking down a lot of TV barriers and having honest discussions about socially charged topics, he did it was such grace and humor that America was ready for it, making it the number one show for years on end. Jean Stapleton is also brilliant as his naive wife. I’m not a huge fan of Sommers or Reiner here, but it doesn’t matter much. I love the Jeffersons here too, less so on their own show. And man, talk about a shit-ton of spinoffs. I’ve never seen Archie Bunker’s Place, which was basically a continuation of this one.
